3 Devices We’re Excited About from the MWC 2014

According to reports, there were more than 40+ handsets and devices introduced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain this year from a bevy of international manufacturers. However, there are only a few devices we are looking most forward to seeing released locally. Here, we list down 3 devices that we think is something to be excited about.

LG G Pro 2

Although announced ahead of the MWC 2014, the LG G Pro 2 was showcased at the convention. Like its predecessor, the G Pro 2 has the specs to go toe-to-toe against the other flagships on this list: it has a 5.9 inch HD IPS panel, a quad-core Snapdragon 800, 3GB of RAM, 13MP rear camera with OIS, and 3200mAh. To differentiate it from its competitors, it has the same back buttons and the KnockCode that was introduced before. The G Pro 2 will come with Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

Sony Xperia Z2

The Japanese company released its early 2014 flagship, the Xperia Z2, at the MWC and it comes with more impressive specs and improvements over its predecessor. The Z2 comes with a Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, microSD card slot and a 20.7M G-Lens camera with improved image processing.

The biggest change, however, is the 5.2 inch Full HD IPS LCD display with Live Color LED technology. This is a major improvement, as Sony traditionally gets criticized over it’s displays sub-par viewing angles and performance. The Xperia Z2 comes with Android 4.4 KitKat.

Samsung Galaxy S5

The Galaxy S5 was the most anticipated and most popular phone at the MWC 2014. One might even say the S5 attracted more visitors at the event.

The phone comes with a 5.1 inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 2,800mAh battery. It also came with some extra goodies in the form of a heart rate sensor and an IP67 certified water-resistance. The smartphone is powered by Android 4.4 KitKat, with TouchWiz UI on top.

Honorable Mention: Samsung Gear Fit

This one I am most curious about. The health-centric Gear Fit has an elongated and curved Super AMOLED display, measuring at  1.84 inches with 423 x 128 resolution. It is very light at just 27 g and comes with interchangeable wrist straps.

It looks beautiful, and sounds useful. Maybe. This could be the one wearable that’s worth buying this year.

How about you? Which device are you most excited about for this year?
