Xperia Z2 Survives Six Weeks Under 10 Meters of Sea Water

As the story goes, the phone accidentally fell off a boat while Maxén and a friend was on vacation and out water skiing. It sank 10 meters into the sea bed. He was in no position to try and recover the phone, so they left the area without it. Once they got back on land though, they tried to give it a call, and the Xperia Z2 rang. It still had reception. Six weeks later, his friend who lives near the area went back scuba diving and found the phone. The Xperia Z2 had some external damage, and the battery had completely discharged. But to their surprise, the phone’s LED indicator lit up when trying to charge the phone. The Xperia Z2 worked completely fine and could even make calls.

With regards to the Xperia Z2’s waterproof capabilities, Sony says that it “can be kept under 1.5 m of fresh water for up to 30 minutes in compliance with IP58.“ Talk about a testament to Sony’s build quality. Apparently, the phone is tougher than was stated.

Of course, it doesn’t mean that Xperia Z2 owners can throw caution to the wind and dunk their phones in water for extended periods of time. For all you know, this is the one Xperia phone that survives that kind of ordeal. Its still safer to follow what Sony advises.
