I spent some time with Cherry Mobile’s Superion Navigator and all I can say was “all that for how much?” To my surprise, this 8 inch tablet is another proof that price is not an indicator of performance. My quick review up next.
WHAT’S IN THE BOX:
Inside the package, you will find the usual list of accessories that came with the unit. As an added bonus, the package also includes a red USB cable that folds up when not in use.
HARDWARE AND DISPLAY:
The Superion Navigator is powered by a 1.3GHz quad core MediaTek processor, Mali 400MP GPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. If 8GB is not enough for you, you can expand storage via microSD that supports up to 32GB. The 8 inch tablet does a great job with most games, and the 1GB of RAM is enough for multitasking.

Once I turned on the device, the first thing I noticed was the screen. Similar to my experience with the Flare 3, I was captivated by how nice the screen looked. It was bright and the colors were punchy. The 8 inch display has a resolution of 1280 by 800, with a pixel density of 213dpi. The pixel density of the Superion Navigator is better than most tablets nowadays, making images on the screen look sharper.
I think 8 inches is the sweet spot between portability and usability, especially when it comes to web browsing. A 7 inch tablet is good enough for games and watching videos, but browsing the web is not as convenient.
Here it is beside my 2012 Nexus 7.
DESIGN:
The Superion Navigator is a great looking tablet. The design makes it look like a premium device. The plastic material of the body seems to contradict its price tag. It feels nice and looks nice. And the brushed gunmetal back plate adds a touch of elegance and class.
I like that the tablet feels very solid and sturdy. It has a bit of weight to it, but not enough to be bothersome. For some reason, it’s actually a plus on how good the build quality is.
At the top of the tablet you will find the 3.5mm audio jack. The bottom has the mic, micro USB port, and micro HDMI port. The surprising addition of a micro HDMi port gives you another way to connect your device to a compatible TV. Finally, the right side has volume rocker, while the left side has the power button.
You can access the two SIM slots and microSD card slot by removing the top plate at the back.
PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY LIFE:
Performance of the Superion Navigator is surprisingly good. Most games played well, and watching HD videos is quite nice. The device runs smoothly and navigating through it is almost lag free. Besides the processor and RAM, it helps that the UI is as stock as it gets. The tablet runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Imagine how much better it would be if it ran KitKat.
What I really enjoyed the most while using the device was when I’m surfing the web. Internet browsing was a very pleasant experience. I didn’t realize how much more convenient it was to use versus my 2012 Nexus 7.
The 4,000 mAh battery will give you around 6 to 8 hours, depending on how much you use it. While testing, I got over 7 hours worth of browsing and watching videos.

CAMERA:
The Superion Navigator comes with a 5MP main camera with flash. The images came out ok. Colors were mostly accurate, but details were a little soft.

WRAP UP:
All in all, the Superion Navigator is quite the able tablet. For the only P6,999, you get an 8 inch Jelly Bean device with a quad core processor and 1GB of RAM that performs admirably in tasks its designed for – watching videos, playing games and browsing the web.
Its impressive performance, good looks, and low price should make heads turn towards Cherry Mobile’s handsome tablet.

i suspect that it will not get kitkat version because its processor is MT8389 w/c I think thesame with the MT6589 w/c has no or less developer and Mediatek did not provide the source code to the OEMs for further software updates.
