Google Messenger App for SMS now in Google Play

Google recently released their Messenger app for SMS in Google Play. It’s the same one found on Android 5.0 Lollipop devices. The new app features Google’s Material Design, and a much a simpler look, feel and use.

When you open the app for the first time, Google’s Messenger will give you an option to choose it as the default app to handle SMS. It will also start funneling all previous SMS from your old SMS app. You could also set it as the default through its settings menu (the three dots).

The app isn’t for everybody because it’s so simple and bare. But I’ve been using Messenger since last week, and I think I’m liking it. I actually like the simplicity and the clean, stock design. I’m not sure about all the colors and use of negative space though, but its fast and simple. I think I’ll be using it for awhile.

If you want to give it a try, here’s the link: Messenger.
