In the Philippines, Xiaomi is known for their smartphones, namely the Mi 3 and the Redmi 1S. In other parts of the world, the Chinese company offers a wide range of consumer electronics products from LED TVs, to media players and air purifiers. And now it looks like they’re venturing towards the PC market. That’s right, the 4th largest smartphone maker in the world might come out with an affordable notebook with killer specs.

Rumors of a Xiaomi-made laptop have been swirling around the web for a few months now, but recently, images have surfaced of what it might look like. And apparently, it bears a striking resemblance to a Macbook Air.

Besides the images, some information about the specs were also leaked. According to the rumors, the Xiaomi laptop will be powered by the latest Intel Haswell i7-4500u processor with 2 x 8GB dual channel RAM. It will have a large 15-inch 1080p display, and it is expected to run a Xiaomi-customized Linux OS. Initial reports pegs the Xiaomi laptop’s price to be somewhere around 2999 Yuan (around PHP21,700).

Unfortunately, we have to take all these with a healthy dose of salt. The device, its images and specs have not been officially confirmed or announced by Xiaomi. But if it does turn out to be real, then this could potentially become another hit for the Chinese electronics company.
