Globe announces partnership with HOOQ, Asia’s video-on-demand service

Are we finally getting a Netflix like video-on-demand service in the country? 

Asia’s first video-on-demand service, HOOQ, has just partnered with Globe Telecom, enabling million of their subscribers to enjoy unlimited online streaming access and offline viewing options. With over 10,000 international and local movies and television series, consumers can access the content through a computer, a tablet or a smartphone.

Now that consumers have access to a variety of international and local content, entertainment will now be more personal, and with Globe, this means experiencing it with the highest quality.” said Mr Ernest Cu, President and CEO of Globe Telecom.

HOOQ is a start-up joint venture between Singtel, Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros. Entertainment. The service is set to change the way people consume entertainment by allowing customers to enjoy online streaming access and an offline viewing option of movies and TV shows across smartphones, computers, and tablets. Local film and TV content will also be available through partnerships with the country’s top studios, such as GMA, Viva Communications, Regal Entertainment, and ABS-CBN.

Customers of Globe Telecom will get first dibs at downloading the HOOQ app. It will soon become available to subscribers on a plan-based service for only PHP199 per month. HOOQ subscribers will have then have access to thousands of movies and television series. It will also be offered as a bundled service with the telco’s GoSURF and Tattoo broadband services.
