Cherry Mobile acquires JaiYu

That particular ODM is JaiYu. For those not familiar, JaiYu is the company responsible for the handset the 2015 Flare X was based on. The acquisition was completed sometime last year, making Cherry Mobile a full fledged phone manufacture.

The acquisition also opens new opportunities for the local smartphone brand. JaiYu has presence in several European markets which Cherry Mobile plans on entering using the CM brand.

The move is a definite game changer, especially in the local smartphone industry. Cherry Mobile is now a global brand with the capability to produce Filipino-designed devices with JaiYu handling the manufacturing side of things. This means more control, leading to better smartphones at lower price points.

The local smartphone industry just got better and more competitive thanks to Cherry Mobile. The consumers are the real winners here.
