Hello stock Android! Lenovo confirmed that it will be shipping future smartphones with stock Android, dropping Vibe Pure UI in the process.
Lenovo and Stock Android
Head of Product Marketing for Smartphones for Lenovo MBG India, Anuj Sharma confirmed the news while speaking to Gadgets 360.
“What we have done in last 11 months is we looked at what we had in terms of software perspective. We have been close to the consumers and we saw what they were asking for. There was a certain trend and we have now decided to cut the Vibe Pure UI off from our phones. So you will now get the stock Android which consumers have been asking for.” – Anuj Sharma
According to Sharma, Vibe Pure UI was affecting the smartphone experience of most of its users, with many calling for a more stock experience. In the past, Lenovo attempted to retool the UI to lessen bloat and improve performance. But I guess that wasn’t enough for their users. The company relented and decided to ship future smartphones a look and feel closer to stock Android.
They also announced that the first smartphone to run stock Android will be the Lenovo K8 Note. The company said the smartphone is assured of getting the Android O update when its made available by Google. What’s more, Sharma also mentioned that stock Android will make future OS updates more efficient, making it easier to support the OS for a longer period of time.

It is expected that the transition to a stock OS won’t be as difficult for Lenovo. Moto, a brand that has always favored stock Android even before ownership changed hands, is owned by the company.
