While the iPhone 8 Plus is not that much of a leap from the iPhone 7 Plus, it does have one redeeming quality that put it above the rest — the camera.

Best Camera on a Smartphone According to DxOMark

A lot can be said about the iPhone 8 Plus, but one thing is for certain — it has a great camera.

The iPhone 8 Plus is king when it came down to mobile photography as DxOMark crowns it the “best smartphone camera” with an overall score of 94. Close behind is its smaller sibling, the iPhone 8 with a score of 92. The closest Android rival are the Google Pixel and HTC U11, with a score of 90 a piece.

To quote DxOMark:

Overall, the Apple iPhone 8 Plus is an excellent choice for the needs of nearly every smartphone photographer. It features outstanding image quality, zoom for those needing to get closer to their subjects, and an industry-leading Portrait mode for artistic efforts. It is at the top of our scoring charts in nearly every category — and in particular, its advanced software allows it to do an amazing job of capturing high-dynamic range scenes and images in which it can recognize faces.

Maybe this could convince skeptics to get an iPhone 8 Plus. Compared to its predecessor, nothing much has changed in design and functionality. And the addition of wireless charging is not enough to warrant an upgrade, especially if you’re coming from an iPhone 7 Plus. But if you have the budget, and if having the best camera on a smartphone matters to you, then this is it.

If this isn’t enough and you really want the best photo quality you can get, then maybe its time to buy a real camera.
