Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) Now Official; Features Dual Selfie Cameras

Samsung announced the latest members of the Galaxy A series — the Galaxy A8 (2018) and the Galaxy A8+ (2018).

Samsung unveiled two new smartphones for 2018 that come with aesthetics similar to that of the S8. The new Galaxy A (2018) series, the 5.6-inch A8 and the 6.0-inch A8+, features a look look resembling modern day Samsung flagships. The handsets have a glass and aluminum build, and comes with 18.5:9 Super AMOLED Infinity displays that curve into the bezel.

The phones are powered by an octa-core Exynos 7855 processor, paired with 4GB of RAM and 32/64GB of storage. It also has IP68 water and dust resistance, plus a 3,000 mAh battery for the A8, and a 3,500 mAh battery for the A8+.

One standout spec the new A series has are the dual front camera systems. With these, Samsung is effectively competing against selfie touting smartphones from the likes of OPPO and Vivo. The selfie cameras use a 16MP + 8MP sensors, while the rear uses a 16MP sensor.

Another spec that is worth noting is the fingerprint sensor placed underneath the rear camera. It’s good that they corrected the horrible placement of the ones on the S8 series and the Note 8. This also means that future flagships (S9 and Note 9?) would have a similar placement.

At the time of writing, there are no news of the price or local availability.

The Galaxy A8 (2018) and the Galaxy A8+ (2018) will be available in early January 2018.
