Good guy Xiaomi will be updating 40 devices to MIUI 9. The ROM is based on Android 7.0 Nougat, and adds features such as a new notification panel, improved optimizations, and a new video app.

This is definitely a good thing. Xiaomi will be updating 40 devices (tablets and smartphones) to MIUI 9, a ROM based on Android 7.0 Nougat. Some of the devices on the list are are over 6 years old, so this is really a surprise. Hopefully, some smartphone brands can follow this example, but we can only dream.
