Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ Comparison

Assuming you have the budget (because I don’t) and you’re on the fence between two of Samsung’s latest and greatest, here’s a quick comparison to help you make a decision. Let check out the main differences between the Samsung Galaxy S9 and bigger Galaxy S9+.

Similarities

Before we breakdown its major differences, lets first see the two’s similarities. Both feature the same design elements, despite the difference in size. They’re both powered by an octa-core Samsung Exynos 9810 processor and use the same Mali G72-MP18 graphics unit. They both have DeX Pad support, IP68 dust and water resistance, the same 8MP front camera, the same dual AKG tuned speakers, and the same fingerprint placement.

Display

This is one of the main differences between the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+. The former has a 5.8-inch display, while the latter has a bigger 6.2-inch display. The S9 has a slightly sharper screen at 568ppi because of its size. While the S9+ has 531ppi. With these pixel density numbers, the two are indistinguishable.

Both use Super AMOLED screens with 18.5:9 aspect ratio, protected by Gorilla Glass 5.

Rear Camera

Another main difference are the two’s cameras. The Galaxy S9 has a single 12MP rear camera with a variable aperture f/1.5 to f/2.4 lens. The Galaxy S9+ has a dual 12MP + 12MP sensor where one uses a variable aperture telephoto lens, while the other is a 12MP sensor with a wide-angle f/2.4 lens.

Both have OIS and dual-tone, dual LED flash.

RAM/Storage

The Galaxy S9 has 4GB/64GB and 6GB/64GB options. The S9+ has 6GB/128GB and 6GB/256GB options. For most users, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage are more than enough. But if you want more, then maybe the latter is what you need.

Both have expandable storage options.

Battery

Because of the Galaxy S9+’s bigger size, Samsung managed to fit it with a 3,500 mAh battery. The smaller S9 has a 3,000 mAh battery. Both has fast charging and wireless charging.

Price

Probably the most important difference for most, the prices of the new Galaxy S9 series saw an increase. The Samsung Galaxy S9 will have a suggested retail price of Php45,990 for the 4GB version, and Php52,990 for the 6GB version. While the Samsung Galaxy S9+ will have a suggested retail price of Php52,990 for the 64GB, Php55,990 for the 128GB variant, and Php60,990 for the 256GB variant.

Remarks

The two phones certainly have their own advantages. The Galaxy S9 is smaller and looks sexier. It fits better in the hand, and still has a great rear camera, an able processor, an adequate battery, and a big display.

The bigger Galaxy S9+ is has a bigger display, a bigger battery, bigger storage, more RAM, and the same processor. It also has a dual camera with telephoto and wide-angle lenses.

Honestly, you can’t go wrong between the two. Both are equally impressive. Your choice will depend on how big you’d like your phone to be, storage capacity, and if dual cameras matter to you.

But personally, though, I would probably go with the Galaxy S9+ just because of it’s bigger battery and the dual rear cameras.
