Instagram Version 2.1 Brings New UI, Sierra Filter and Lux Editor

Popular iPhone app Instagram has just been updated.  Instagram is a photo-sharing app that offers built-in photo editing features and a platform that’s akin to social networking.  The app is only available to iOS users for now but Android users may be able to use the app in the future.

In any case, Instagram has just been upgraded to version 2.1 and the updates appear to be more than just simple tweaks.  The UI has been greatly improved.  It is now cleaner, more simple and is better looking than the previous version.  The labels on the tab bar have been removed and the camera button has been reduced in size.

Here are the screenshots of the new UI courtesy of Instagram’s iTunes page.

Instagram users will now have a new image enhancement option to play with.  Instagram included a new filter called Sierra in the new update.  Sierra is another retro-style finish and will be an addition to the other existing effects on Instagram.  It’s meant for users  who want their photo to have that vintage look and feel.

The biggest addition to the Instagram app has to be the Lux feature.  It is an quick editing feature in the app that greatly enhances the photo.  With just one tap, your photo gets sharpened.  In addition, the app tweaks the photo’s lighting, contrast and saturation settings.  This is more than a simple image enhancement feature as it effectively brings out the details in a photo much like how HDR brings out details in photos.

If you’re an iPhone user, download the new version of Instagram now.
