According to a report from Reuters, Xioami is collaborating with Chinese sports gear maker Li Ning Co Ltd to make a “smart shoe” this year. Yup, you read that right – smart shoes.
With Huami Technology, the fitness wearable company under Xiaomi behind the Mi band, Li Ning will embed “smart” chips on the soles of their running shoes. The “smart” shoes will then connect to a Xiaomi smartphone app allowing runners to track their progress and results, analyse their form, and monitor their achievements.
No other information about price or availability was mentioned, except that the shoes are promised to be affordable.
With Xiaomi and Li Ning’s announcement, the market of smart wearables has just expanded. And so it begs the question, are you interested in smart shoes? If you ask me, I think companies are just overusing the word “smart” on devices.
