OPPO filed a patent for a foldable smartphone display. We’ll we see it anytime soon?

The patent entry suggests a single display with the hinge at the back that folds or flexes in the middle, resulting in screens on both front and back of the phone. When its fully expanded, the you’ll be staring at a large display with probably a tablet like experience.

Looking at the renders, you’ll also notice that the top and bottom bezels are huge, while the side bezels are tiny. And the profile of the phone when expanded is thin.

So, what does this patent mean? Probably nothing. Many companies file for patents regularly. And having one doesn’t mean it translates into a new phone design. But it is interesting to see what OPPO will come up with using this idea.
