The extended Fortnite cross-play beta for the Playstation 4 will now allow PS4 players to play with their Android counterparts.
Fortnite for all
According to John Kodera, Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO, an open beta for Fortnite was released that will allow cross platform gameplay, progression, and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems.
Cross-play is the future of multiplayer games like Fortnite as it allows more players to participate (and consequently spend money) on the game regardless of the platform you are on. This is especially beneficial now as most of us carry smartphones everywhere. It makes sense to assume gaming companies would want the majority of smartphone users to be a part of their ecosystems.
The cross-play feature is nothing new to Fortnite Android players. It has been available to them for some time now with other platforms aside from Sony. With the inclusion of the PS4, at least more players can now be a part of the action.
Although, if you were a Fortnite Android player relying on a touchscreen for controls, I’d imagine you wouldn’t want to face a PS4 player with a controller. Unless, you know, you’re that good.
