OPPO unveils ‘waterfall screen’ and eliminates bezel

OPPO recently released photos of a new smartphone display they call the “Waterfall Screen.” The display has extreme curves on the sides, almost eliminating the side bezels from view.

To describe what it looks like, the screen continues to curve on the sides, almost wrapping it. This results in a thinner, longer looking device. Possible issues could include accidental touches and input, so we have no information yet on how OPPO can minimize this. They could include additional functionality such as virtual buttons or having extra information there.

We’re likely to see it on a future flagship. OPPO is not afraid to do things differently (like the impressive OPPO Reno 10x Zoom and its shark’s fin pop-up camera). Who knows.

This could be the start of a new trend in display design and technology. Leaked images of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro‘s screen suggests Huawei might be doing the same thing.

Either way, the future of display technology and design is looking good right about now.
