MediaTek recently announced the Helio G80, a gaming-focused chipset for midrange smartphones. The new SOC sits between gaming chips flagship Helio G90 and entry-level Helio G70. It is positioned to go up against the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G.
Built on the 12nm node, the Helio G80 features an octa-core CPU with a pair of ARM Cortex-A75 processors clocked at up to 2GHz. It also has six Cortex-A55 processors running at 1.8GHz.

For graphics, it comes with a Mali-G52 that can go as high as 950MHz. In contrast, the G70’s GPU maxes out at 820MHz.
Helio G80 boasts smoother performance in demanding games and improved power efficiency for long gameplay. It also comes with MediaTek’s HyperEngine technology which enhances connectivity such as intelligently switching between Wi-Fi and LTE.
The Helio G80 is expected to launch in new phones within the month, starting in India.
