Qualcomm outs Snapdragon 690 to bring 5G to cheaper phones

Qualcomm launches its latest 5G chipset, the Snapdragon 690. The processor comes with a host of improvements compared to previous 6-series chips, hoping to equip 5G to cheaper handsets.

According to Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon 690 is a lot better compared to the Snapdragon 675, with 20 percent better CPU performance, 60 percent faster graphics, and 70% improvement in AI performance. It comes with 5G connectivity, thanks to the new Snapdragon X51 modem.

The chip also supports 120Hz refresh rate displays, 4K HDR video capture, up to 192MP cameras, up to 8GB RAM, 1080p 240fps slow motion video, HDR10, and more.

The Snapdragon 690 is an octa-core chip manufactured using an 8nm LPP process. It has two Kryo 650 A-77 cores with a clock speed of up to 2GHz. The other six are based on A-55 cores with a clock speed of 1.7GHz.
