Vivo V19 Neo review

Vivo recently launched the V19 Neo in the Philippines. Their latest midrange phone features a large OLED display, powered by a Snapdragon 675 chip with 48MP quad cameras.

The Vivo V19 Neo is priced at PHP 17,999. It is now available stores, and online via Shopee and Lazada.

Check out our unboxing and initial impressions. The handset has one of the more handsome packaging this side of midrange devices.

Design

I stand by my initial impressions on this one. The Crystal White colorway is the way to go. The Vivo V19 Neo exudes elegance with a pearl white finish that gives it a clean, pristine look.

From the front, you have a large 6.44-inch AMOLED display with a full HD resolution, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and a punch hole cutout on the upper right corner. The display has narrow side bezels, but has a slight chin that matches the top bezel.

On the right-hand side you have the power button and the volume keys. Both buttons are slightly above the center, within easy reach.

The SIM tray is on the left-hand side. Below you’ll find the 3.5mm headphone jack, a microphone, a USB Type-C port, and the single speaker. The speaker is decent sounding for the most part. Bass is a bit lacking, which isn’t a big surprise in this range. There’s also another microphone at the top.

On the back side are the quad cameras with an LED flash on a raised rectangular layout with a silver outline.

As for the retail package, the phone comes with a pair of in-ear headphones, a USB Type-C cable, a fast charger, a silicone case, warranty documentation, a SIM ejector, and a pre-installed plastic screen protector. The case though is hard to remove once it’s on. Keep that in mind when cleaning your device.

Display

The Vivo V19 Neo has a huge 6.44-inch AMOLED display which Vivo calls an Ultra O Screen. It is protected by Gorilla Glass with a pre-installed plastic screen protector.

Thanks to the punch hole on the upper right corner and the thin bezels, the device has a 91.38% screen-to-body ratio. It also has a 20:9 aspect ratio which I think is great for most games and videos.

Like most AMOLEDs, the display is bright with punchy colors, deep blacks and good viewing angles. It has a full HD+ 2400 x 1080 resolution with a high 409ppi pixel density.

It also has an in-display fingerprint scanner, which is fast and responsive. It’s more accurate than most midrange phones.

The V19 Neo comes with features to protect your eyes, such as the TUV Rheinland certification, blue light filters, low-brightness anti-flicker technology, and the Eye Care mode that makes the display warmer. It also has the popular dark mode, which for AMOLEDs saves on battery life and lessens eye fatigue by reducing glare.

Performance

Under the hood, the phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 AIE processor with 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, and Funtouch OS 10 based on Android 10.

The processor has two performance cores and six efficiency cores. The chip is highly capable for everyday tasks. The fact that it’s faster than Snapdragon 710 in CPU performance (but not in GPU) says a lot.

When it comes to gaming, the V19 Neo can handle graphics heavy games the likes of COD Mobile, Asphalt 9, and PUBG Mobile. On higher settings, expect micro stutters and some lag. You can always enable Ultra Game Mode for better gaming performance.

Camera

One of the V19 Neo’s main draws are its cameras. It has five in total – four at the back and one in front.

The rear cameras consist of a 48MP main, an 8MP ultra-wide, a 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor. While for selfies, it has a single 32MP snapper.

The main camera outputs 12MP photos, but you have the option to use the whole 48MP. The ultra-wide lens has 108-degree field-of-view, allowing you to take in more of your subject and background.

In good light, image quality is pretty good. Photos come with good color and details, looking pleasant and vibrant overall.

Selfies look good and flattering as well. Skin tone looks natural. The camera app has a Face Beauty mode that allows you access to a variety of settings, such as buffing (for smoother looking skin), skin tone, whitening, thin face, and more. And if you can’t decide on a pose, there’s an interesting feature for postures. It basically offers guides (via an outline) of popular selfie poses you can copy.

The macro camera allows you to come close with a 4cm focus. To make the most out of the macro lens, you will need a lot of light. Otherwise, you’ll end with blurry and noisy photos.

Ultra-wide angle shots have over saturated colors and decent sharpness. But you do get that barreling effect, common to wide angles. At max zoom, images lose a lot of quality, with a dip in details, colors and contrast.

The V19 Neo also has a night mode for both the main cameras and the selfie camera. It basically allows you to take handheld shots in low light situations using longer exposure times. It uses AI adjust to movement, giving you a clearer and brighter shot.

The phone has video stabilization that works up to 1080p 60fps. You can also shoot up to 4K 30fps videos minus the stabilization. It also has slo-mo mode and time-lapse.

Battery

The Vivo V19 Neo packs 4,500mAh battery with the company’s Dual-Engine fast charging. The phone can last a day with the usual activities of watching videos, browsing the web, listening to music, playing a few games, checking social media, and the occasional email.

The phone comes with an 18W charger, which can top-up the phone to 100% in about two hours.

Final Remarks

If you’re a fan of Vivo, then the Vivo V19 Neo is right up your alley. You will definitely get what you pay for with this one. The phone excels in a lot of things, including design and battery life. Not only that, but it also has respectable cameras, stabilized video, and a good AMOLED display.

You won’t go wrong with the V19 Neo. But those looking for a phone that outperforms its price should consider looking elsewhere.
