realme confirms a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 flagship phone is in the works

After the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 was unveiled, realme wasted no time in declaring their plans of releasing a flagship phone powered by the new processor.

In a tweet, realme mentions the phone’s codename “Race”, with no other details apart from the chip. The brand said the realme Race will be one of the first flagships to be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G.

Xiaomi also announced its own plans, tweeting about the debut of its upcoming Xiaomi Mi 11.

With the two brands’ announcement, the race for the first Snapdragon 888 has officially begun. Interestingly, realme’s codename for its flagship both refers to performance and the race to be the first to release a phone with the new chip.

We’re expecting other smartphone brands to issue their own announcements soon. Several other brands were confirmed to use the chip include Asus, Black Shark, Lenovo, Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo, Sony, vivo, and more.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 is the latest chipset soon to grace flagship phones. The chip will offer 144fps gaming and come with updatable GPU drivers.

Apart from that, chip promises improved image processing with the Spectra ISP performing 35% faster compared to the previous generation. It has a capacity to handle 2.7 gigapixels per second of image data which is around 120 photos at 12MP resolution.

The Snapdragon 888 will also come with the third generation Snapdragon X60 5G modem with more support for major bands nationwide.
