After Voltes V, GMA Network wants to make a Daimos live-action series

After the adaptation of Voltes V, GMA Network is targeting Daimos as its next live-action project.

GMA Network Senior Vice President Annette Gozon-Valdes said as much, during an interview with Paolo Contis during his online show Just In. Contis asked Gozon-Valdes what comes next after Voltes V: Legacy, one of GMA Network’s most ambitious (and expensive) projects. Her answer? “We’re planning on ‘Daimos’ sana.”

While nothing is confirmed, we’re hoping it falls through. Daimos is one of the most popular robot animes that graced the country way back in the 90s.

Daimos is produced by Toei Dōga and directed by Tadao Nagahama. It was part of Nagahama’s Robot Romance Trilogy of super robot series, that includes Chōdenji Robo Combattler V and Chōdenji Machine Voltes V.

The robot anime aired in Japan from April 1, 1978 to January 27, 1979, with 44 episodes, and follows the story of super robot Daimos’ pilot Kazuya Ryūzaki (known as Richard in the Philippines) and his love interest, Erika.

Apart from the Daimos live-action series, GMA Network is also working on “Sang’gre,” a “Lolong” sequel, and a project for Alden Richards. Gozon-Valdes also added “sana may isa pang Voltes V”, alluding to a possible sequel, likely tied to the series success.
