Japanese Film Festival 2024 kicks off in PH with anime packed roster

The Japanese Film Festival 2024, also known as Eigasai, officially opened on February 1, featuring 14 films from various genres and eras of Japanese cinema. Among the highlights of this year’s festival are four animated classics that will appeal to both young and old audiences.

The festival is screening several high-profile anime, including the First Slam Dunk, two Detective Conan movies, Gold Kingdom and Water Kingdom, 1999’s Voltes V: The Liberation, and the live-action remake Voltes V: Legacy.

The festival is from February 1 to March 3. You can catch it at the following screening venues:

  • SM City Iloilo (February 23 to March 3)
  • SM City Davao (February 23 to March 3)
  • The UPFI Film Center (February 22 to March 2)

At the festival’s opening ceremony, the Japanese Embassy in Manila also awarded the Ambassador’s Commendation to Larry Chan of TELESUCCESS PRODUCTIONS and the GMA Network, Inc., for their contributions in bringing Japanese shows and movies to Filipino audiences.

The embassy praised Chan for his role in introducing iconic titles such as Voltes V, Slam Dunk, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Boys Over Flowers, which have shaped the cultural landscape of the Philippines.
