UP claims top spot in 2025 QS World University Rankings for Philippines

UP secured the 336th spot out of over 1,500 universities globally.

The University of the Philippines (UP) cemented its position as the leading Philippine university according to the 2025 edition of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings. UP climbed the ladder, securing 336th place out of over 1,500 universities globally. This marks a significant improvement from its previous ranking of 404th.

Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) followed closely behind at 516th, while De La Salle University (DLSU) landed within the 641-650 bracket. Both institutions also saw positive movement in the rankings.

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) experienced a slight decline, moving from the 801-850 range last year to the 851-900 bracket in 2025. Similarly, the University of San Carlos (USC) in Cebu fell to the 1,401+ band, compared to its previous placement within the 1,201-1,400 range.

The QS World University Rankings consider various metrics when assigning placements. These include a university’s sustainability efforts, employment outcomes for graduates, and the strength of its international research network.

This year’s top ten universities worldwide are dominated by prestigious institutions like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Imperial College London, and the University of Oxford.
