Xiaomi is developing a massive 7500mAh battery with fast charging

Xiaomi is pushing the boundaries of large batteries on smartphones. According to a post on Weibo, the company is developing a 7500mAh battery, complete with 100W fast charging.

Apart from the large battery, Xiaomi has been working on battery capacity and fast charging combinations, with the following results:

  • 5000mAh + 120W fast charge= 18 min full
  • 5500mAh + 100W fast charge= 34 min full
  • 6000mAh + 120W fast charge= 30 min full
  • 6500mAh + 100W fast charge= 49 min full
  • 7000mAh + 120W fast charge= 40 min full
  • 7500mAh + 100W fast charge= 63 min full

If you ask me, sixty-three minutes to charge a 7500mAh battery to full is a good deal. There are already phones with 5000mAh batteries that charge for less than 20 minutes out in the market, so there’s nothing new there.

Phone manufacturers have begun switching to silicon-carbon batteries (the first one being HONOR’s Magic 6 Pro). Compared to lithium-ion batteries, they can be made thinner with higher energy densities, faster charging, and longer battery lifespans.

At this point, it’s too early to tell when we’re going to see these massive 7500mAh batteries on Xiaomi phones. But knowing how fast the company moves, it’s probably going to be soon.
