Huawei uvneils HarmonyOS Next

Huawei has launched HarmonyOS Next. This is a huge step for the company as this is their first mobile operating system developed in-house independent of the Linux kernel or Android source code.

HamonyOS Next will go head to head against Android and iOS. It is built on the OpenHarmony open-source code, having its own operating kernel, programming language, and AI framework.

HarmonyOS Next features a refreshed look with new customization options, redesigned controls, and improved performance. The operating system also comes with advanced AI features powered by the Pangu large language model to enhance overall device fluency and efficiency.

Huawei reported that over 15,000 apps and services are currently part of the HarmonyOS Next ecosystem, with more being added regularly.

The new OS will power current and future generations of Huawei devices in China, ranging from smartphones, wearables, smart home appliances, and smart cars. Previous versions of HarmonyOS are already installed on over 1 billion devices worldwide.

Huawei is currently seeding a public beta version of HarmonyOS Next to users in China. At present, it is only available for select devices with more models added soon. You can find the full list here. Stay tuned.
