Android 15 is barely out on devices and here we are already talking about the impending arrival of Android 16.
Google has announced plans to expedite the release of Android 16, its next major mobile operating system. The tech giant is aiming to deliver the final version in the second quarter of 2025, earlier than previously expected.
The company said the accelerated timeline is designed to align with the launch schedules of various Android devices, hoping that users will receive the latest version sooner.
In addition to the major Q2 release, Google is also planning to release a minor update in Q4 of 2025. This update will focus on refining the operating system, addressing bugs, and optimizing performance.
Moreover, the company will release incremental updates in Q1 and Q3. These updates will introduce smaller improvements and bug fixes to ensure a more seamless and reliable experience.
Google said it is working closely with device manufacturers to bring the new OS to as many devices as possible.
Currently, only a handful of devices are running Android 15, including Pixel devices and several newly announced flagship phones such as the OnePlus 13, the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro, and the OPPO Find X8 and X8 Pro, among others.
