Davao City has overtaken Manila as the Philippines’ city with the worst traffic, according to the 2024 TomTom Traffic Index. The southern city now ranks 8th globally among 500 cities.
Davao drivers face major delays, spending an average of 33 minutes to cover just 10 kilometers. This amounts to a staggering 136 hours lost annually in traffic jams.
Manila, previously the worst, saw a slight improvement, with an average travel time of 32 minutes per 10 kilometers. Caloocan City is also on the global list, ranking 26th.
Globally, Barranquilla, Colombia, was the most congested city, with motorists needing 36 minutes and 6 seconds to traverse 10 kilometers. Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Pune of India ranked 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively, followed by London in 5th place and Kyoto in 6th.
The TomTom Traffic Index uses floating car data collected from various sources, considering factors that affect traffic flow, including road infrastructure, traffic density, and weather conditions.
For this edition, TomTom analyzed a sample covering 458 billion miles driven in 2024, allowing to track and demonstrate how traffic patterns have changed in cities worldwide.
Davao’s ranking highlights a serious traffic issue, reflecting a broader problem in Philippine cities.
