Starting June 20, students in Metro Manila can now enjoy a 50% fare discount on MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 train lines.
DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon announced the initiative at LRT-2 Antipolo Station. The new rate doubles the previous 20% discount and applies to all students, including those in postgraduate programs.
The 50% discount is available every day, including weekends and holidays, and will remain in effect until 2028. However, it only applies to Single Journey Tickets purchased at station counters. Beep cards and stored value tickets are not yet eligible.
To avail of the discount, students must present a valid school ID or proof of enrollment for the current academic year. The program is expected to benefit thousands of students, especially those commuting to universities along the LRT-2 line, which serves Manila’s University Belt.
The DOTr is working with MRT-3, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), and Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) to ensure smooth implementation.
This move is part of the government’s broader efforts to make public transportation more affordable and accessible for Filipino students.
