Google has updated Gemini with new features to improve personalization and privacy. The changes include Temporary Chats and a setting that lets Gemini learn from past conversations.
First up is the new Personal context setting. It allows Gemini to remember details from previous chats. This helps the app give more relevant suggestions based on your interests.
For example, if you’ve asked about books or hobbies in the past, Gemini may recommend similar topics in future chats. This feature uses the Gemini 2.5 Pro model and is available in select countries. It’s turned on by default, but you can switch it off in the app’s settings.
For users who want more privacy, Google added Temporary Chats. These are one-time conversations that won’t be saved or used to train AI models. They’re stored for up to 72 hours only to process responses and feedback. Temporary Chats won’t appear in your chat history or affect future replies.
Google also renamed the Gemini Apps Activity setting to Keep Activity. When enabled, a sample of your uploads will be used to improve services. You can turn this off or use Temporary Chats to avoid sharing data. A separate control for audio, video, and screen sharing is turned off by default.
These updates give users more control over how Gemini works, while making the app more useful and personal.
