Most IT leaders say their cyber defenses can’t handle AI threats

Lenovo report: Most IT leaders say AI cyberattacks are too advanced.

A new report from Lenovo reveals a growing concern among IT leaders: 65% say their cybersecurity systems are outdated and can’t keep up with AI-powered attacks. Only 31% feel confident they can defend against these threats.

The report, called Work Reborn, surveyed 600 IT leaders across 12 countries. It shows how AI is changing the way cybercriminals operate. Attacks are now faster, harder to detect, and can even mimic normal user behavior. These threats target everything from cloud systems to devices and sensitive data.

IT leaders are most worried about external threats like AI-generated phishing scams, deepfake impersonation, and malware that changes to avoid detection. They’re also concerned about insider risks, including employees misusing AI tools and AI agents acting without proper oversight.

Lenovo says traditional security tools are no longer enough. The company is pushing for AI-powered defenses that can adapt in real time. It also promotes its Cyber Resiliency as a Service (CRaaS), which claims to detect 99.5% of threats and respond in under 30 minutes.

The report warns that businesses must upgrade their defenses or risk falling behind. As AI becomes more common in the workplace, staying ahead of AI-driven attacks is now a top priority.
