The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is set to begin a dry run of its online vehicle registration and license renewal system. It’s part of LTO’s effort to modernize and move away from face-to-face transactions and fixers.
The agency will work with transport groups to test the system. Orientation sessions will be offered to help users get familiar with the new platform.
Alongside the digital rollout, LTO will also test an updated motor vehicle inspection process. All light vehicles will be required to undergo checks, with a focus on brakes and speedometers. Inspections will be conducted at district offices, while bigger vehicles like trucks and buses could be checked via mobile units that visit their garages.
To prevent “no-show” inspections, LTO will use tablets with photo checklists instead of paper forms. This ensures vehicles are physically present during inspection and adds a layer of accountability.
If things go as planned, the new system will make registration less of a hassle for motorists, cutting down long lines and face-to-face transactions that, quite honestly, have been a struggle for years.
Stay tuned for updates.
