Kojima’s Death Stranding anime heads to Disney+ in 2027

The anime series will stream on Disney+ in 2027.

Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding franchise is expanding into animation with a new series set to stream on Disney+. The working title is Death Stranding Isolations, scheduled to debut in 2027.

Kojima Productions is partnering with Disney+ for the first time to bring the game universe to a wider audience.

Kojima will serve as executive producer, with Sano Takayuki directing. Concept art is being developed by Ilya Kuvshinov, known for his work on Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045. Animation will be handled by Japan’s E&H production studio.

The anime will tell an original story separate from the video games. It will follow a young man and woman on an adventure, presented in traditional hand-drawn 2D animation.

The Death Stranding franchise began with the PlayStation release in 2019, which has since reached more than 20 million players worldwide. The series recently expanded with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on PlayStation 5.

The Disney+ adaptation continues the trend of video game properties moving into streaming, following successful titles like Castlevania, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

With Kojima’s involvement and Disney+ backing, Death Stranding Isolations is expected to make a splash, joining the growing list of game-to-anime adaptations.
