A major outage at Cloudflare disrupted large parts of the internet on Tuesday, knocking popular websites offline for hours. Platforms affected included big names like X (formerly Twitter), ChatGPT, Letterboxd, Grindr, and more. Even Down Detector, a site that tracks outages, went down during the incident.
Users saw error messages such as “internal server error” or warnings that they were blocked as a security risk. Some pages displayed instructions to “unblock challenges.cloudflare.com,” but there was nothing users could do except wait for the service to return.
Cloudflare, which provides infrastructure that helps websites stay online and secure, confirmed the problem and said it was investigating. The company has posted several updates, noting it is “continuing to work on a fix for this issue.”
While some of its tools, like Access and WARP, are back online, many major sites remain unavailable. Earlier updates suggested progress, but issues quickly reappeared, showing how widespread the disruption is.
Later, Cloudflare said it had implemented a fix and believes the issue is resolved. The company added that it will continue monitoring for errors to make sure all services return to normal.
The outage lasted for a few hours and showed how dependent much of the internet is on a few key infrastructure providers. Stay tuned for updates.
