Visa has rolled out Google Pay in the Philippines, giving cardholders a faster and safer way to pay. With the service, users can add their Visa debit or credit cards to Google Wallet and make purchases by tapping their phone. It works in stores, apps, and online.
Seven banks are part of the initial rollout: Chinabank, EastWest, GoTyme, Maya, RCBC, UnionBank, and Wise.
Security is built into the system. Each payment uses Visa’s tokenization technology, which replaces the card number with a digital token. This means sensitive details are never shared with merchants. Visa says this has cut fraud rates by more than half worldwide.
Digital payments are already growing in the country. Data from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas shows that 57.4% of retail transactions are now digital, beating the 2024 target. The goal is to reach 70 percent by 2028.

To encourage adoption, Visa is running a campaign with Pick Up Coffee. Customers who pay with Google Pay can get a free upsize on drinks and an extra discount. The service also helps travelers, making payments easier both abroad and for tourists visiting the Philippines.
