SM Supermalls has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) charging network to more than 160 stations across the Philippines.
The initiative is led by SM Cares, the mall chain’s corporate social responsibility arm. Charging stations are located in malls nationwide, allowing drivers to recharge while shopping, dining, or resting.
The chargers use Type 2 connectors, which are compatible with most EVs in the market. Under Department of Energy guidelines, adapter connectors are generally prohibited unless they carry manufacturer certification for safe use or are approved by the EV charging service provider.
Currently, the service is free of charge for EV owners and SM Supermalls customers. Motorists can use the charging stations during mall hours, with terms and conditions available on the SM Supermalls website.
The company operates 89 malls in the Philippines and nine in China. Integrating EV charging into its properties will help make sustainable travel more accessible and encourage wider adoption of EVs.
