Disney announced that Ryan Gosling will star in Star Wars: Starfighter as Kade Auberon, a rogue pilot tied to the fastest starfighter ever built. The film was revealed at D23 2026 and will hit theaters on May 28, 2027, the same day the original Star Wars turns 50.
Directed by Shawn Levy, the movie explores a new galaxy far from the Skywalker saga. Levy said the story will focus on hope, family, and adventure, the core themes of the franchise. Gosling also serves as executive producer, with Kathleen Kennedy producing and Jonathan Tropper writing the script.
The cast includes Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams. First-look footage showed Gosling’s swagger as Kade, a decommissioned G17 starfighter, plus familiar Star Wars touches like speeder bikes, imperial-style ships, and a nod to the bridge from A New Hope.
The setting expands the scope with a sea-filled planet and places the story at the farthest point in the timeline. Levy stressed the Memorial Day release as symbolic, tying the film to the franchise’s 50-year milestone.

Gosling is also set to play Ghost Rider for Marvel Studios, with Shawn Levy directing the film too. This puts Gosling at the center of two major movie universes. With Star Wars: Starfighter and Marvel’s upcoming slate, fans can expect him to lead some of the biggest releases in the next few years.
