Bluetooth speakers have really come along way. Sound fidelity has vastly improved leaps and bounds over the years and the X-mini Evolve is a current testimony to it. I write about this not on an all encompassing manner though since hardcore audiophiles might still notice a difference or two. However, suffice to say that for your everyday listener who simply streams music or still uses an mp3 player, the X-mini Evolve in bluetooth mode is more than able to superbly serve songs. Nonetheless, the X-mini Evolve has significantly reduced the perceptible difference between using bluetooth vs a wired connection. What makes the X-mini standout in the current crop of bluetooth headsets is its ability to double as a portable speaker. I got to test this feature out while watching a movie fed to a monitor streamed thru the X-mini. In another occasion while in the office, I needed to share to a group of colleagues a music peg that ended up being critical component to a proposal we presented afterwards. Although not your typical listening occasions, the X-mini on both instances was able to go decently loud and clear enough that you wouldn't have any problems discerning the words spoken or hearing certain musical instruments. At the moment for me at least, the speaker mode really is an added differentiator for the X-mini Evolve. Should you have more reasons to use it in speaker mode to complement its primarily purposed headset mode, then all the more I'd recommend the this to you. It definitely scores a high 9 (out of 10) for me in the convenience department. With wireless listening, instant speakers and handsfree phone capabilities -- what more can you ask? Maybe a tad bit smaller in size and its own carrying case that comes in the box :-). Given the numerous aural things it can do, I wondered if battery life can keep up? In this aspect though, I wouldn't be able to provide much empirical reviews given that I was unable to even fully drain it from continuous use during the whole time I had it with me to review (ie. one week). Although that in itself might already speak something off the X-mini Evolve in this department. It definitely scores a high 9 (out of 10) for me in the convenience department. With wireless listening, instant speakers and handsfree phone capabilities -- what more can you ask? My only other (future) concern for the X-mini Evolve is the sturdiness of its folding arm. From experience, folding mechanical arms tend to loosen up and unable to maintain its hold due to regular wear and tear. This may not be a concern for those who tend to upgrade gadgets regularly but being a in it for the long haul type of person, its a consideration. Overall, I'm astonished that the X-mini brand has come along way especially considering its humble beginnings in the speaker sphere (mini burger speakers anyone?). The X-mini Evolve has also personally changed my perception of bluetooth speakers with regard to their musical fidelity. That it can be used as a speaker and has handsfree phone use are bonuses that make it a very practical multipurpose sound machine that I'd recommend. I wonder what other nifty feature could X-mini add in next their next line? The X-mini Evolve retails for P5,490.
