Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) is the evolution of voice calls. And it’s finally here thanks to Smart Communications and Star Mobile.
Smart and Starmobile
PLDT-Smart Chair and CEO Manuel Pangilinan and PLDT-Smart Chief Technology and Information Advisor Joachim Horn bear witness to the first VoLTE call made on the new VoLTE-capable Starmobile FeatureSmart Evo 1 feature phone at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
VoLTE uses 4G LTE connectivity to send and receive voice data. This means that apart from static-free calls, the technology is capable of “Fast Call Stup” which eliminates the usual 5 to 10 second wait time we usually experience when making calls. It has superior sound quality, and is more “data” efficient than VoIP.
For this to work though, both the caller and the receiver should be using VoLTE-capable handsets on a VoLTE-enabled network. This is where Starmobile’s FeatureSmart Evo 1 comes into play.
The Starmobile FeatureSmart Evo 1 is a feature phone equipped with VoLTE. It supports 4G, 3G and 2G calls as well. The handset sports a 2.4-inch color screen, dual SIM support, Bluetooth, a FM radio, and expandable storage via a microSD card slot.
“VoLTE is a feature usually found only in high-end devices which may cost an arm and a leg. The Starmobile FeatureSmart Evo 1 costs only as much as a pair of jeans.” – Michael Chen, Starmobile COO
Smart’s VoLTE service and the Starmobile FeatureSmart Evo 1 will be available soon.
