We take a quick look at the OPPO R17 Pro’s much talked about cameras. The night mode is awesome!
OPPO R17 Pro Cameras
When the OPPO R17 Pro was announced, the company was so proud of its camera capabilities, building a lot of hype, especially the night mode.
This piqued my curiosity. And as the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding. So I took a few shots to see how it performs. And the results? Well, to my surprise, it is really good.

Despite the triple camera billing, the R17 Pro is essentially a dual camera phone. It has a 12MP + 20MP sensor setup. The third one is a 3D TOF lens, which I think will be used for 3D scans. For selfies, it is equipped with a 25MP shooter.
Like Samsung’s latest flagship phones, the R17 Pro’s main cameras come with variable apertures of f/1.5 and f/2.4. This gives it added flexibility, especially in low light situations.
The handset also features AI technology that assists its cameras during night mode, much like what Huawei did with the P20 and Mate 20 series.
Camera Performance
Photos from the R17 Pro turn out quite well. Images have good saturation and sharpness, with pleasing colors. It can, in my opinion, hold its own against the powerhouses from Huawei and Samsung.

I am happy to report that even the bokeh of the background looks great.
Night Mode
The R17 Pro’s Night Mode is a something special. It is good. The phone uses an AI-powered long exposure method developed by Huawei.

Selfies
OPPO has long been selfie experts, so it’s not a surprise that they’ll do well in this category. Selfies from the R17 Pro look good with nice details and colors. Shooting against the light though, causes the image to overexpose.
Conclusion
Camera-wise, the R17 Pro can deliver. OPPO has done a tremendous job in this category. Especially the night mode, where I think they have something special in their hands.
I know a lot was said when the OPPO R17 Pro debuted in the Philippines. It’s price of PHP38,990 was a lot higher than what I would have liked. But for the cameras alone, the phone is worth your money.
I hope OPPO continues to build on what they have started here. I am excited to see what they have in store for us in the future.
