Most of us use emojis at one point or the other. It comes hand in hand with the increased usage of social media and messaging apps. It helps convey emotions and whatever else we’re feeling at that point. But have you ever wondered which ones are the most popular?
Well, we have the answer to that. The Unicode Consortium, a not-for-profit organization responsible for digitizing the world’s languages, has recently released its report on the most popular emojis of 2021.
So which one is the most popular? according to their research, it’s the smiley face with the “tears of joy” (this one 😂). It kind of makes sense. The emoji is often used to convey laughter — either because something is funny or in a mocking (laughing at someone or something) manner. Either way, we all have used it at one point or another in both contexts.
Anyhow, the most popular emojis this year are:
- 😂 – Face with tears of joy
- ❤️ – Red heart
- 🤣 – Rolling on the floor laughing
- 👍 – Thumbs up
- 😭 – Loudly crying face
- 🙏 – Folded hands
- 😘 – Face blowing a kiss
- 🥰 – Smiling face with hearts
- 😍 – Smiling face with heart-eyes
- 😊 – Smiling face with smiling eyes
Those ten are the most used. According to the Unicode Consortium, there are 3,663 emojis, and yet, these are what most people gravitate to. The least used? Its Flags. They are the largest collection at 258. Not surprising, given how emojis are used.
