Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G review

Infinix recently launched its 108MP camera phone, the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G, in the Philippines. Like most phones from the brand, the Note 12 Pro offers tremendous value for PHP 12,499.

The smartphone looks good for the price, offering a large AMOLED display, a 108MP primary camera, and a 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging. But is it the right smartphone for you? Let’s find out.

Mature design, Good display

One thing I would say about the Infinix Note 12 Pro is that the design looks mature and almost corporate. Our review unit is in black and it looks elegant and premium, making you take the phone seriously.

The phone has a boxy shape with flat sides and a flat display. I actually prefer this design to the more common curvy and slender option that proliferates the mid-range market.

Its build quality is good, despite the plastic back panel. I found the weight just right, which is to say it’s not so light that it feels cheap, nor is it too heavy that it’s tiring to use. And in the hand, it is pretty solid and feels quite significant.

At the front, we have a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 2400 x 1080 resolution and 100% DCI P3 Color Gamut. It has a large dew drop notch that houses a 16MP selfie camera. The display itself is quite good. It’s bright with punchy colors and good viewing angles. The notch, while not distracting, is a little on the large side.

At the back, you have the aforementioned plastic rear panel with the triple cameras highlighted by the shiny camera island. I really like how it looks, contributing to that serious vibe mentioned earlier.

Both the power button and volume rocker are on the right side, which makes for easier reach and handling. Again, it’s a personal preference, but I do enjoy having both buttons on one side.

While at the bottom, there’s the 3.5mm headphone jack, the primary microphone, USB-C port, and the main speaker.

Performance as a daily driver

The Infinix Note 12 Pro is powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 810 processor with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It runs on XOS 10.6, which is based on Android 11.

For the most part, the phone runs smoothly with little lag and stutters. But one thing I found annoying was the unwanted notifications. It’s bothersome, but it’s not a deal breaker. Of course, you have the option to disable them one by one.

As a daily driver, the Note 12 Pro handles itself well. It’s a large phone, which requires two-handed operation in most scenarios. The handset can handle most apps without much issue. In gaming, you can get away with low to medium graphic settings for demanding games.

The large display is great for consuming content, which is to say watching TikTok, YouTube, and Netflix. It also has stereo speakers which sound slightly tinny, but it does get loud and it’s better than having just one speaker.

As for the battery life, you’re assured that it will last a whole day at the least. You can stretch it a bit further with light usage. Charging with the 33W fast charger takes around 85 minutes to reach 100 percent.

Cameras

The Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G boasts a 108MP primary camera alongside two 2MP sensors for depth and macro. At the front, there’s a 16MP camera for selfies.

Rear cameras

The camera app is standard with the usual set of features, including HDR, video, Beauty mode, Portrait, and Night Mode called Super Night. It also has other modes to enhance the user experience like Short Video for TikTok. The main camera mode is labeled AI CAM.

Front facing flash

Photos taken by the device are decent. Sharpness is okay with above-average details and good contrast. The dynamic range is average, while colors appear to be neutral.

Selfies, on the other hand, look good with pleasant skin tones and just about the right amount of details. It also has a front-facing flash which helps in extremely low-light situations.
