Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire reveals first teaser trailer with Paul Rudd and Finn Wolfhard

The Ghostbusters franchise is back with a new sequel that promises to be a chilling adventure. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the follow-up to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, has released its first teaser trailer, and it looks like the ghostbusting team will face a new threat in a frozen New York City.

The teaser trailer starts on a regular summer day when all of a sudden a dark cloud rushes over New York City, freezing everything it touches. The trailer then cuts to scenes of the Ghostbusters’ firehouse, Ecto-1, and the returning cast members, including Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Carrie Coon, and Bill Murray, as well as newcomers Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will follow the events of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, where the ghostbusting team discovered the legacy of Egon Spengler, the late scientist and founding member of the Ghostbusters, played by Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014.

The official synopsis reads: In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

The film is directed by Gil Kenan, who co-wrote it with Ghostbusters: Afterlife filmmaker Jason Reitman, the son of late Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman. It is the fourth film in the Ghostbusters franchise, which began in 1984 with the original Ghostbusters, followed by Ghostbusters II in 1989, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife in 2021.

The franchise also includes a 2016 reboot, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, which featured a female-led cast and a different continuity. The franchise also spawned animated series, video games, comics, and merchandise.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will hit theaters on March 29, 2024. Watch the official teaser trailer below.
