Filipinos’ quality of life improved in Q2 2024, reports SWS

According to a recent survey from the Social Weather Stations (SWS), the quality of life of Filipinos has improved significantly in Q2 2024.

The survey, conducted from June 23 to July 1, showed that 39% of adult Filipinos felt their quality of life had improved compared to a year ago. This marked a substantial increase from the previous survey in March 2024.

The net gainers score, which measures the difference between those who felt their quality of life improved and those who felt it worsened, rose to +15 in June 2024. SWS classified this as “very high.”

While the current score remains slightly below the pre-pandemic level of +18, it significantly improved from the “fair” rating of +5 in March 2024.

The survey also found that all regions of the Philippines experienced improvements in quality of life. Balance Luzon (areas outside Metro Manila) recorded the highest net gainer score at +26, followed by Metro Manila at +16, Mindanao at +7, and the Visayas at +1.

In terms of educational levels, college graduates reported the most significant improvement, with their net gainer score rising to +21 in June 2024. Junior high school and elementary graduates also experienced substantial improvements, while non-elementary graduates reported a “net zero” rating.

Families that did not experience hunger had a higher net gainers score than those facing moderate or severe hunger. However, severely hungry families remained in “mediocre” territory with a score of -17.

The survey also found that “Not Poor” families reported a higher quality of life than “Poor” families. This suggests that economic status plays a huge role in overall well-being.

The survey was conducted using face-to-face interviews with 1,500 adults in the Philippines (600 in Balance Luzon, 300 in Metro Manila, 300 in Visayas, and 300 in Mindanao). The margin of error is ±2.5%.
