Voltai rolls out battery swap system for electric two-wheelers in PH

Instead of charging, riders can swap out empty batteries for full ones.

Voltai, a startup under Aboitiz Power’s 1882 Energy Ventures, has launched the Philippines’ first large-scale battery swap system for electric two-wheel vehicles. The pilot program was unveiled at a Cleanfuel station in Pasig City.

The system features the AP01, Voltai’s first electric two-wheeler built for local roads. Instead of charging, riders can swap out empty batteries for full ones. The process takes just a few minutes and is supported by a mobile app that shows battery status, location, and usage.

Voltai has teamed up with Cleanfuel and MyTown to install 15 swap stations across Metro Manila. More stations are planned for nearby provinces, along with after-sales support.

The company offers its vehicles and batteries through a leasing model. This helps fleet operators, such as delivery, logistics, and ride-hailing services, avoid high upfront costs and reduce fuel and maintenance expenses.

During the launch, guests were able to test ride the AP01 and try the swapping system. The vehicle is certified safe by the Department of Energy, PDEA, and DTI. Stay tuned for updates.
