A few weeks back, I was invited to cover a Globe event in SM Aura. And as luck would have it, I was one of the people in attendance to win a Note 4 (review in the works). So, since the device was free (and quite expensive), I decided to buy a case to protect it. It’s true that a case lessens the aesthetics a beautifully designed device brings, but I’d rather have a covered flagship, than a dinged one.
SPIGEN CAPSULE CASE
For my purpose, I wanted a minimalist case that fits properly, offers sufficient protection and looks good. Initially I thought of getting Samsung’s official flip cover case, but it was mostly out of stock and expensive at P2,300+. So I looked at my budget, I went to the Spigen kiosk in SM BF and decided to go with the Spigen Capsule Case. I got the gray because black was out of stock, and it actually looked good on a white Note 4.
The Capsule case is made of a durable rubber like TPU material. It’s slim and doesn’t add much weight and thickness to the phone. According to Spigen’s site, the material doesn’t deform or anything as it ages. Its further verified by the sales lady, who also casually mentioned they don’t offer any warranties for it because of its durability (now that’s confidence in their products). The back has a small dotted pattern that gives it a nice grip that also prevents slipping. The package came with an authentication card and instructions on how to use the heart rate sensor with the case on.
The inside of the case has a pattern that’s designed to provide another layer of protection.
And if you check out the upper edge of the image below, you’ll see a small space they call Air Cushion Technology to absorb shock as added protection. I didn’t have the guts to test this one out, so I’m hoping it does its job if something happens.
The Capsule case fits the Note 4 perfectly. All the ports and holes are exactly aligned to their respective cutouts.
Another nice feature is that the lip surrounding the screen is slightly elevated a few millimeters to protect the display in case you place the phone on a surface face down.
The power and volume buttons are covered as well. It doesn’t hinder it all when pressing. The only problem I found was that they were a little hard to find when I fiddle with the buttons without looking at the phone. I have difficulty telling it apart (by touch and feel) from the side because of its flat design.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. It’s light weight, slim and offers adequate protection. I recommend everyone to check it out if you’re in the market for a new case.
The Spigen Capsule case retails for P1,000. I bought mine from their kiosk in SM BF, but they have other branches as well (here and here).
