PLDT Provide Text and Connectivity Support to PNP

PLDT and Smart Communications are providing text and internet connectivity support for the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) “Text Bato” Hotline Service.

“Text Bato”

Text Bato is a 24/7 hotline service of the PNP’s Community Relations Group wherein citizens are empowered to report crime incidents and law enforcement concerns directly to the police chief director Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa via SMS.

The service complements the 911 emergency hotline and focuses on getting citizen-generated reports about law enforcement and police concerns such as leads on criminal activities, erring cops and traffic management issues, just to name a few.

To access the service, Smart subscribers can just relay relevant concerns to the PNP by typing BATO (space) their message then sending it to 7444-2286. A confirmation message will then reach the sender from the sender name PNPBATO. The PNP will then verify the reports to determine the appropriate course of action to take.

Aside from the text service, PLDT is also powering the Text Bato Operations Center by providing them with internet connectivity. This provides round-the-clock support for the PNP in verifying the text reports and mobilizing speedy response.

In designing the platform, the PNP took into consideration citizens with access to “ordinary” mobile phones with mere call and text functionalities. A fee of P1 is charged for every SMS sent.
