Smartphones are getting bigger and bigger. Samsung just announced the Galaxy Note handset with a 5.3-inch display. Yes, you read it right, the WVGA Super AMOLED display measures 5.3 inches and is of the. This is almost a tablet to me, but considering the applications that look great or functions better on bigger screens, I think a 5.3-inch handset is still reasonable for a handset. The phone is thin at light, measuring only 0.38 inch thick and a weighing 178 grams.
The Samsung Galaxy Note runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread with TouchWiz overlay. It is an HSPA+ handset and features two cameras with 8MP and 2MP resolutions. The processor used is a Samsung-made dual-core 1.4GHz. The battery is the removable 2,500mAh type.
What makes this handset stand out from the rest of Samsung’s smartphones is the inclusion of a stowaway pen for note-taking, drawing and grabbing screen captures. The Galaxy Note has a touch-optimized interface called “S Pen” that is perfect for the included pen.
Pricing and availability are still unknown. Here’s the official intro video for the Galaxy Note.
