Nokia Hits 1.5 billion Sales of Series 40 Mobile Phones

Nokia recently announced a new milestone in its history.  It has revealed through a press release that it has reached 1.5 billion in sales for its Series 40 mobile phone platform. The 1.5 billionth phone was purchased by a 21-year lod woman from Sao Paulo Brazil. According to Nokia’s press release, the 1.5 billionth phone was a Nokia Asha 303, a touch screen handset with QWERTY keypad designed for web browsing, social networking and gaming.

The first ever Series 40 phone was Nokia 711 which came out in 1999.  Almost 13 years later, the platform already reached 1.5 billion sales.  Nokia is still working on the platform, and the latest handsets to run on Series 40 are the Asha phones.

Nokia claims that the Series 40 phones now blur the line between feature phones and smartphones especially with its recent innovations including Nokia Maps for Series 40, Nokia Browser and Web Apps, Nokia Money and Nokia Life Tools.
