The new Nexus 7 is expected to be announced formally on July 20 but right now photos of the actual device has already done the blog rounds. Android Central even has a video that features the device, showing its front and backside extensively and a little bit of Android 4.3 action.
No one has an idea what the next Nexus 7 will be called. Some refer to it as Nexus 7 2, which I doubt will be the one used by Google, while most just refer to it as the next Nexus 7. Whatever the name, the rumored specs appear to be great considering the rumored pricing for the new Android vanilla tablet.
The new Nexus 7 is said to be featuring an HD display, an upgrade to the 1280×800 resolution on the current Nexus 7 model. It will also have a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, although some rumors say it has a Snapdragon 600 processor. Remember that it’s all unconfirmed at this point and we may still see changes until the device is formally announced. The RAM capacity according to Android Central is 4GB but previous reports say it will be 2GB. I’d guess the device will have 2GB of RAM but I’d love to be proven wrong here. There will be two storage options for the Nexus 7, namely, the 16GB variant and the 32GB variant. Pricing is expected to be $229 for the 16GB model and $269 for the 32GB model.
Here is that video from Android Central featuring the successor to the Nexus 7:

Based on the video, what we’re seeing is an all-black device. If this is the real device and not just a prototype, Google has decided to ditch the silver trimming and the textured finish on the back of the Nexus 7. It also appears like Google retained the thickness of the device, which is to say that it will not be as thin as the iPad mini. The buttons also retain their locations and Google added a rear camera which according to sources is a 5-megapixel shooter. Android Central is also referring to two speaker grilles at the back, one located near the top and another near the bottom.
Previously, it was reported that an Asus representative revealed the specs of the next Nexus 7 and these were the details that were given:
- 7-inch LED display with 1920 x 1200 resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad core processor
- 2GB of RAM
- 32GB of storage
- 5MP rear camera and 1.2MP front facing camera
- Android 4.3
- 4,000mAh battery
- WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC
- LTE/WCDMA/GSM support
Obviously the Android Central leak is not consistent with the specs reported above, although most details match.
These are all unconfirmed at this point. We will know the truth soon as Google is expected to unveil the new Nexus 7, and possibly Android 4.3, on July 24.
